On May 25, 2018 the GDPR come into force. This Regulation will replace the Personal Data Protection Act.
The GDPR makes more and higher demands on the security of personal data, on informing clients and staff, and on being demonstrably in control of this data. Not complying with these demands could lead to loss of reputation, and hefty fines amounting to 4% of revenues.
Implementation of the GDPR can put much stress on an organization. Policy and procedures concerning processing, recording and storage periods will most likely need to be updated. Employees will need new training and awareness. Development of new IT or modification of existing systems also requires implementation of the new privacy legislation. Some organization are obligated to appoint a Data Protection Officer.
